A BODY has been found on the central reservation of the M53 closing the motorway to rush hour traffic in Merseyside.

Police closed the motorway yesterday evening, after motorists reported seeing a body, and have warned it could remain shut in both directions between Junctions 2 and 3 into this evening's rush hour.

The man's body was found during a search of the motorway by police and it is believed he died in a collision.

No-one else has been reported injured and police are appealing for any witnesses.

A number of people have already come forward to help officers with their enquiries.
